Four Types of Construction

Would you like to give some inputs or take some advice from your preferred construction company in the Philippines? If so, this article would be beneficial for you in terms of determining what type of construction you would like to work on. There are different ways to categorize the different types of construction such as fire resistance, owner, occupancy, capacity, use, etc. However, so as not to bombard you with construction technicalities, let’s focus on the major types of construction.

First, and the most common type of construction, is the RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS. This type of construction is focused on providing housing for people. This is also the most prominent type since we see the majority of houses, dormitories, condos, etc. within our own communities.

Another type of construction is the COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS. Business owners are certainly familiar with this because most businesses commence within these buildings since their offices and warehouses are included in this type of construction.

Next, we have INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS. This type of construction is mostly utilized by large-scale businesses such as those who make use of factories and large-scale productions necessary for assembly or manufacturing products.

Have you noticed the roads, bridges and airports and other transportation structures in your area? Those structures fall under our last major type of construction, the INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS. This type of construction may affect a community, a certain area, or could even be a certain country. These structures are initiated for the public interest.

Looking at the type of construction that we have discussed, this will give you a more specific perspective on how your next or upcoming project will be classified depending on what category the construction will be focused on.

Please keep in mind that this article will help you understand your construction project better but it is in no way sufficient to rely on your sole research. It is best to work hand in hand with your engineer and architect and your reliable construction team to be able to plan your construction project thoroughly and safely.

It is always best to trust the experts! Trust only your reliable construction company in the Philippines!

Amazing New Normal House Design Considerations for your Home from Juan Carlo Calma

The COVID-19 pandemic has opened our perspectives to different realizations on many matters that we did not previously give forethought to. Did you ever imagine that you’d need a space for your home for sanitizing? Do you have regrets on not furnishing yourself a home gym? Same like us, award winning architect Juan Carlo Calma had all the quarantine time in the world to create a Philippine house design that will cost you 2 floors of housing for the benefit of a healthy home as he details in a Philippine Tattler interview. He calls this masterpiece The Loop House.

Sanitation Station

As a direct answer to the problem posed by COVID-19 at hand, Calma proposes that future design should incorporate a room that is designated for sanitation. The interstice should be a space where people can wash up, change clothes, and safely put aside their dirty laundry. This could ideally be connected to a laundry room, too. The same room will also benefit pet owners because they can wash their pets here after playing outside.

Rooftop Garden

Calma’s design is a 2 storey house but since the rooftop functions as a garden and doubles as an activity area, it’s practically 3 tiers of wellness. Calma designates glass windows on the rooftop so that both sun- and moonlight can naturally illuminate the home. The gardens are engineered in such a way that water flows so that it can be recycled; this Philippine house design has the country’s climate in mind so that you can take advantage or tropical weather cycles and simultaneously cut cost on necessities like lighting and non-drinking water.

Rain Water Funneling

Aside from being able to cycle rain water for plant watering, the house design also funnels rainwater so that it adds to ambience by replicating waterfalls to one side of the house and end up in a catch basin where it can be used for other purposes like water the indoor vertical hydroponic garden.

The Loop Lane

This might be the most defining aspect of The Loop House: a bicycle lane that loops around the house and gives access to the biker to all floors of the house. Imagine being able to get out of your bedroom on the second floor, mount your bike, and cycle to the 3rd floor or straight to the streets fuss free.

Calma says that it’s a Philippine house design that aims to create “healing spaces”. He thought up the whole home with the marriage of both his and his wife’s hobbies: cycling and gardening. At the cost of forethought, The Loop House should be the new dream home even beyond the era of the present pandemic.

  • Tailored for your needs- Health cards provided in the country offer personalized health care for everyone, whether it be an individual, a family or even an entire organization. Several Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) offer plans that are created to fit your budget with the support of affordable products and services. You can avail health cards that are of one-time availment. Even its far-reaching services, which can be used for long-term, can also be availed by anyone―even employees of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and huge corporations.
  • Wide health coverage- Basic inclusions for in-patient, out-patient and emergency care with affiliated hospitals covers room and board accommodation, standard nursing services, IV fluids, dressings and casts, consultations, doctor’s professional fees, medicines used for immediate relief and laboratory and diagnostic procedures among many others. There are also other health card providers that offer a discount on basic dental services.

The Role of the Government in the Booming IT-BPO Industry in the Philippines

There is no doubt about it: the Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) is one of the fastest rising industries in the country today. With 1.2 million direct jobs created over the years, it is no wonder why the Philippines currently holds the title “BPO Capital of the World.” While there are several factors behind this global success, big part of it comes from the continuous efforts of the government in boosting the said sector.

Clearly, the government recognizes the IT-BPO’s significant contribution to the country’s growth. This was made apparent in its active participation to support the sector through monetary and policy interventions. These interventions ensure that the actions and policies being created in the industry are aligned to the vision of the country’s inclusive growth.

As a result, the government’s actions attracted more investors to take part in the growing IT-BPO industry in the Philippines in the recent years. More contact centers offering services were established in the country, generating $22 billion in revenues in 2015. This made the sector the second largest source of income in the Philippines for that year.

Among the government’s actions and policies that helped boost the IT-BPO sector are as follows:

IT-BPO related TESDA courses

To further sustain the growth of the sector, the government, through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), offers free courses that specifically target the skill sets required in the IT-BPO industry. Among these are voice and non-voice related trainings such as English language proficiency, foreign language proficiency, medical transcription finishing, animation, and other courses.

TESDA also partners with various groups like the Information Technology and Business Processing Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines, and the Animation Council of the Philippines to provide its scholars with quality education and training. The agency also urges the academe to include more BPO related courses in the curricula.

Data Privacy Act of 2012

According to Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Technology Office Executive Director Louis Casambre, the RA 10173, or the Data Security Act of 2012, is a great measure to replicate the success of call centers to the other BPO segments. Industries like the healthcare and HR outsourcing where sensitive data are involved will benefit greatly from the passing of this law.

The Data Privacy Act makes the country compliant with international data security standards, which protect and preserve the confidentiality, security, and integrity of data gathered within the country. With this act, the IT-BPO sector ensures the safety of data, gaining the confidence of investors to operate their business in the country.

Revised Special Economic Zone Act of 1995

One of the key contributions of the government in the success of the BPO industry is the revision of RA 916, or the Special Economic Zone Act. Then Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Mar Roxas lobbied the said revision in the congress, enabling buildings and floors to register as special economic zones.

The said revision allowed BPOs to operate and enjoy the privilege of being exempted from paying national and local taxes. Through this act, they only had to contribute 5% of their gross income as tax, resulting to more contact center and other services to take part in the country’s IT-BPO scene.

DICT Act of 2015

With the creations of the Department of Information and Communications Technology through RA 10844, experts believe that this will bolster the IT-BPO sector in the Philippines.

According to Genny Inocencio-Marcial, executive director of IBPAP, the creation of the DICT ensures that public and private schools are equipped to train Filipino students with IT. Through the said agency, the country will be able to produce a workforce that is ready to provide services such as contact center, animation, and game development.

Marcial also believes that DICT will help in improving the internet connection and cyber security in the country. If such improvements happen, they will greatly power up several businesses in the Philippines including the IT-BPO industry.

If the government continues to support the industry, the IT-BPO will definitely become the leading player in driving the country’s inclusive growth. More investors will see how good it is to invest in a sector backed by the government. And when this happens, it is not impossible to see the country rising from its current state and surpassing the other leading South East Asian nations.

Finally you have finished your studies and the long years of homework, quizzes and projects have come to an end and with this, a new door of adventure have opened. You are ready for work! Ready enough to earn your own dollars and start building your name in you chosen industry.

As you look for companies to work for, you may or have been already see this line – an ISO Certified Company. What do these 3 words mean for a company and for you as a job seeker?

ISO certified companies are really good organizations to work for, simply because they comply with the international standards. Being an ISO certified company provides a lot to a customer as well as for its employees. Here are three reasons why you should consider working in an ISO certified organization.

1. They are after customer or client satisfactions.

We know that there are companies that are not customer friendly and just want sales and profits. And these you will not found in an ISO certified entity. Basically ISO certified companies are focused on client satisfaction than sales for they understand that if clients and customers are satisfied, they might be tied with the company for longer time which at the end will bring sales to the company, as well as reputation and brand building.
What this means for you as an employer? Simply you are ensured that the business will be there for the years, giving you much stable work and career growth.

2. More clients, more leads!

Are you wondering why such companies advertise that they are an ISO certified company? They are doing this to capture more clients, customers and leads! This means that you still have your job in the next year and there might be a possibility that the company will grow faster because of the growing demand of the customers.

3.The company is good at decision making.

ISO standards are very clear on the exact instructions to be used for audits and process checks. The standards will help the company in gathering relevant information necessary for making the right and proper decision based on the gathered data and not just a hocus pocus. With these, as an employee you are sure that the company will do the right decision for the company and also for you as an employee. They will end up on decisions that will satisfy the employees as well as targeting the company’s goals at the same time.

I believe these three reasons are enough for you to prioritize starting your career on an ISO certified company like PAPTI in the Philippines. God bless on your career friend!

9 Amazing Facts about Accountancy

My friend’s mom was currently working as a Filipino accountant in Dubai UAE at Embassy - Fs. A recent conversation of them was very interesting. They talked about some facts about accounting and luckily my friend share it to me. Here is the list!

1. The term “accountant” comes from the older English word “accomptant”, which came from the French word “compter”, which comes from the Latin word “computare”. It means to reckon, score, number or count. A word full of history!

2. The ancient Romans are really obsessed with record keeping. For a fact, their military bases kept detailed accounts on everything, from how much grain was in stock to how many nails are in their workshops. Many said that these accounting skills that the Romans have in the earlies were the reason why they were the great nation at that time.

3. In 1494, the first book on double-entry accounting was written by Italian mathematician and Franciscan friar Luca Bartolomeo de Paciolo, called Summa de arithmetica, proportioni, et proportionalita. He is said to be the “father of accountancy”. The textbook was used in the abbaco schools in northern Italy. Double-entry means there is a debit and credit entry for every transaction.

4. The first certified public accountant (CPA) exam was first held in 1896 in the state of New York, USA.

5. Accounting plays not just a major role in business but also in law enforcement. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has more than 1400 accountants among its special agents

6. Chicago crime boss Al Capone was finally brought down in 1931 by FBI accountants. Yes, you read it right! By accountants and not just by police or SWAT. It is believed that he is responsible for crimes ranging from bootlegging to murder, but Capone was ultimately arrested and convicted for income tax evasion.

7. Since 1935, a team of Certified Public Accountants has spent an average of 1700 hours prior to Oscar night counting the Academy Awards ballots by hand! That’s huge counting hours!

8. A lot of people think and believe that the term “bean counter” was used to describe an overzealous or detail obsessed accountant, dates back centuries. But the fact is it’s only around since the 1970s.

9. Not all celebrities are just good actors, singers, dancers or on any of their choice field. For a fact, there are celebrities who began their careers as accountants. Who are they? Ultimate Fighting Champion and Dancing with the Stars contestant Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, WWE wrestler D-Lo Brown, jazz artist Kenny G., comedian Bob Newhart, Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and singer Janet Jackson top the list!

Intrigued by these facts? Shared this to your friends too! Just like what my friend does to me!
